Like the pillars of the Charminar and the pearly lights of Tank Bund, the giant boulders and granite rocks of the Deccan plateau are part of what makes Hyderabad home for so many of us. The rocks that dot our landscape are ancient, dating back to millions of years, are a truly unique geological heritage of our city. They are featured in our art, poetry, music, and food. The vast granite forms the literal geological bedrock of our city- forming countless natural water reservoirs and acting as a home for the urban wildlife of Hyderabad.
However, the rapid urbanization of recent decades has brought with it massive destruction of Hyderabad's unique landscape. The rocks of Hyderabad form an integral part of the cultural, social and environmental aspects of our city, and we must preserve them for a truly sustainable form of development.
It aims to raise awareness and a dialogue between citizens, builders, the government and other stakeholders to keep the rocks that remain. It is accompanied by a wide ranging strategic program with screening and discussions in diverse spaces across the city.
